UFN 20 POSTFIGHT: Maynard says he’s lost his head

Nate Diaz took Gray Maynard out of game last night during the main event at Ultimate Fight Night 20. Maynard took a close decision but knows he strayed from the gameplan

nah, im thinkin more like anderson silva tko griffen. it was a jab, not a straight. I know a jab is usually fallowed my a another jab then a straight like rich franklin done to…. forgot his name.. damn.

youre confusing jabs and straight punshes
a jab by definition is not a knock out punch its a set up punch
youre thinking about the diaz robby lawler fight? seth petrezelly Kimbo? or even ray sefo semmy shilt? anyway those are straight punches not jabs

a little jab can also knock you out. .there are countless fights that show short, slow jabs that have ended a fight instantly, knocking out there opponent.

unfortunately marketing is as important as talent

    in all aspects of life

  11. 11 HoneyIEducatedTheWeb

    True.

But the important word to use is “marketing”.

Many people thought Ronaldinho was the best footballer in the world. He simply wasn’t. He was great at marketing himself, though. The exact same applies to Pele.

Dumbest thing i’ve read today, the judges do NOT like mocking. It’s part of the reason both Nick and Nate get screwed in decisions, it’s really nothing more than a natural reaction to being in a fight along with supreme confidence. There’s no way in hell they do it to score points in the judges eyes

Maynard won clearly. It should not even been a split decision

  14. 14 swvile

Nate Diaz won…fuck this bullshit..fuck Joe Rogan

Does not sound like a winning interview at all…..

in the judges subconscious mind they may give more points to diaz for octagon control or agressiveness because of the taunting.

  17. 17 signboyy

yes it can also be used to bait your opponent to be more aggressive which might play into your game somehow. thats true.

you would be surprised how many judges are as impressionable and stupid as fans, and are psychologically influenced by mocking fighters.

personally i despise it, its a weasily way to try to influence fans and judges.

    you are missing the point.

part of the reason ali was considered great was because of his mocking.

people seem to think that the fighter doing the mocking is somehow better.

people are dumb. and unfortunately a lot of judges are dumb like that.

so its a strategy some fighters use to give them an edge in the scoring.

a litle jab can get yu a black eye
a big one on a chin wont leave a mark to your face but on your brain
redefining effective striking is necessary in mma

  21. 21 WBelmonteJr7

Ali was great, he could afford to do it… Diaz, not so much

  22. 22 WBelmonteJr7

Maynard clearly won… Diaz fan, like Nate himself, are crybabies

  23. 23 rezendog

@signboyy so what if maynard dropped diaz in the round that diaz was winning? would the round be a draw because diaz was taunting him a lot?

  24. 24 blacklabel67k

@signboyy also the reason is more along the lines of baiting the other opponent into getting upset and maybe getting a little wild opening up their guard for some counters etc.

  25. 25 blacklabel67k

@signboyy sorry signboy but taunting has nothing to do with how MMA bouts are scored. i havent heard that about boxing either…. i got no clue where you heard that from. but its not true.
