Okami replaces Kampmann at UFC72

franklin.jpgIt looks like Rich Franklin will still have his hands full when he steps into the octagon at UFC72. Yushin Okami, fresh of his unanimous decision victory against Mike Swick at UFC69, steps up to take on the former champ. This will be Rich Franklin’s second fight back after being totally dominated by Anderson Silva and losing his middleweight title at UFC64.

His comeback began with a TKO victory at UFC68 when Canadian Jason MacDonald’s corner threw in the towel after the second round of their fight, putting his record at an amazing 21 - 2 - 0.

Yushin OkamiOkami strangely has the same number of fights as Rich Franklin, but adds a loss to his career. He does have a win against current middleweight champ Anderson Silva, but it came by way of disqualification as Silva was penalized for an illegal kick at Rumble at the Rock 8 in 2006.

UFC Breaks Attendance Records!

The Ohio State Athletic Commission released its attendance numbers for UFC 68 and at 19,079, it now holds the record for highest attendence to an MMA event in North America. This total breaks the previously record of 18,265 held by the Strikeforce Fighting Championship.

Of those attendees, 17,358 were paid entrees bringing the total gate to $2,741,820. Just shy of the total for UFC 67. The average ticket price was down from UFC 67 but considering that the UFC made over 200,000,000 on PPV last year, I’m pretty sure there cool with it.

It’s actually refreshing to think that after a successful fiscal year, an organization would actually make it easier on the wallet to view and attend thier sporting events. The sanctioning bodies of Boxing should be taking some serious noteds on how to not only run an event, but promote it to the masses. UFC is catching up, BIG TIME!

UFC68 Results

It was a big night win for Randy Couture in UFC The Uprising with a monster 5 rounder ending up with a decision rightfully swinging his way to make him the new UFC heavyweight champion. Where does this leave Tim Sylvia?

Other upsets on the card include Renato Sobral’s defeat to Jason Lambert with an explosive KO punch in round 2. Matt Hughes and Rich Franklin managed to get a win but Matt Hughes had to go all the way to the wire for a decision whereas Jason MacDonald’s corner stopped the fight at the end of round 2.

Matt Hamill continues with a perfect record in the UFC, he’s a bulldog.
