Held on February 3rd 2007 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas Nevada. It was originally the card that both winners of Spike TV’s The Ultimate Fighter 4, Matt Serra and Travis Lutter, were to get their shots at the Welterweight and Middleweight titles.
But because of a knee injury to Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre, and the fact that Travis Lutter failed to make the weight for his bout against Anderson Silva, we saw no title defenses on this night.
Travis Lutter, although managimg to get Silva to the mat numerous times during the bout, was handily beaten by the champ, and the George St. Pierre fight was rescheduled for UFC 69 on April 7th.
We instead were privvy to the debut’s of two of the international mixed martial arts worlds most renowned fighters: Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. Two defectors From Japan’s PRIDE FC looking to make there mark in the UFC. Both fighters took home easy victories in there UFC debut’s.
Look for a possible Quinton Jackson vs Chuck Liddell rematch on the horizon (Jackson KO’d Liddell in PRIDE matchup in 2003) and Cro Cop going after Randy Couture in his quest for a heavyweight belt.
