UFC 85 Main Event Changed

Due to Chuck Liddell’s grotesquely torn quad muscle, the UFC brass have been forced to come up with a new main event for UFC 85 in London.

Knowing that Chuck’s opponent, Rashad Evans isn’t a huge main event draw (see UFC 78) they have asked former Welterweight kingpin Matt Hughes to step in against up and comer Thiago Alves.

I don’t know about you, but I’m not all that excited about this main event, particularly since Hughes has been known to put on snoozer performances against anyone not named BJ Penn or GSP in recent years.

On the brightside however, the undercard is shaping up pretty good with a few potential barn burners in Werdum vs Vera and Davis vs Swick. See 2 posts below for full card details……

UFC85 Update (again)

It seems like the draw against Tito Ortiz and the split decision snoozer win over Michael Bisping has earned Rashad Evans a shot at the former Light Heavyweight champion. Chuck’s had a few fights since losing his title so he’s not exactly in contention for the title any time soon. Perhaps a win against Evans might kick him up the list?

Chuck Liddell impressed with a good win over the Axe Murderer, Wanderlei Silva. Roll on UFC85!

Heavyweights Fabricio Werdum and Brandon Vera will face each other as the only other confirmed fighters on the card.

UFC85 Update

Shogun Rua is definitely out against Chuck Liddell at UFC85.

He has ruptured his ACL in his left knee, the same injury he had surgery on from last October after the Forrest Griffin fight.

Matt Hughes Retiring?

This article is AKA “PWNED at UFC79

Georges St. Pierre PWNed Matt Hughes and it sounds like Hughes sounded like he may be retiring soon. He mentioned at UFC79 after the fight that “he only wants to fight a few more fighters”. Let’s face it buddy, wrestling can take you so far then after that you gotta step up and learn some new abilities. Georges St. Pierre won with an arm bar and Hughes appeared to be crying “HELP ME, HELP ME, HELP ME, HELP ME…” Yet gracious as always in a win or lose situation Matt Hughes was respectful to GSP and was humbled. Meanwhile GSP gave the belt to one of his corner men and stated that it is not his belt until he beats Serra.

Rich Clemti PWNed Guillard

Other PWNage that night:

Sokoudjou got respectively PWNed by Machida until Machida mentioned him going back to the jungle..

Roan Carneiro PWNed Tony DeSouza

Chuck Liddell PWNed Wanderlei Silva. That’s right Liddell was definitely NOT on Nyquil that night and pounded the hell out of Silva. 6 years in the making and Chuck stood up and beat the hell ot of the Axe Murderer.

Rich Clementi PWNed Melvin Guillard BIG TIME and Guillard, after all his fronting and what not just looked embarrassed. So he should have been, he should get back on Cocaine and hit harder.

UFC 81 - Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir

brock_lesnar.jpgCaptain penis sword vs the human guard rail. Damn, this shit writes itself people.

Lesnar’s foray into MMA gets a serious upgrade as the former WWE pretend wrestler steps into the octagon against former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir. Mir has had limited succsess in his comeback to the UFC since he almost lost his leg in a motorcycle accident.

Regardless, Lesnar is in it deep this time around, Mir might not be as good as he once was but this is no tomato can for Brock.
