UFC 85 Main Event Changed

Due to Chuck Liddell’s grotesquely torn quad muscle, the UFC brass have been forced to come up with a new main event for UFC 85 in London.

Knowing that Chuck’s opponent, Rashad Evans isn’t a huge main event draw (see UFC 78) they have asked former Welterweight kingpin Matt Hughes to step in against up and comer Thiago Alves.

I don’t know about you, but I’m not all that excited about this main event, particularly since Hughes has been known to put on snoozer performances against anyone not named BJ Penn or GSP in recent years.

On the brightside however, the undercard is shaping up pretty good with a few potential barn burners in Werdum vs Vera and Davis vs Swick. See 2 posts below for full card details……

Kalib Starnes Quits UFC

Kalib Starnes Quits UFC

….. Or gets fired from UFC, depending on who you ask.

It has been reported that Starnes has opted out of his contract with UFC after a less than impressive “fight” with Nate Quarry at UFC83. Kalib spent the majority of the bout back pedaling and generally avoiding engagement with “The Rock”, eliciting Quarry’s impression of “The Running Man” and a horde of boo’s from the crowd at the Bell Center.

Why Starnes was so defensive is anyone’s guess as he has made no excuses for the loss. He certainly did not show any signs of the fighter who defeated the dangerous Chris Leben last year. Dana White (who contradicted Starnes by claiming the Middleweight was released from his contract) commented “He just doesn’t belong in the UFC and after his performance the other night, he should consider a new line of work”.

Thanks for that Dana. Very professional as always……

It’s a shame that it ends like this for Kalib as he is certainly a lot better than he showed on Saturday. UFC-Fights.com wishes Kalib success in his future endeavors.

Rich Franklin: Where Do You Go From Here?

Now I know what you’re thinking, but no, I’m not going to write yet ANOTHER article trashing Rich Franklin. Rich has my respect after proving he is a class act in defeat at UFC 77. And no, I’m not going to reference the 1974 Gremlin hatchback I acquired through trade for a signed picture of “Ace” either. Oops! I guess I just did. Oh well, we’re off to a good start then aren’t we?

With Franklin set to take on human raisin Travis Lutter at UFC 83, one can’t help but wonder exactly what he’s hoping to accomplish in the Middleweight Division at this point in his career?

Surely he can’t be planning ANOTHER violent encounter with division champion Anderson Silva’s knee? Surely he knows now after 2 overwhelming defeats at the hands of Silva that he simply has no answers for The Champ’s offence? Well maybe not. Some fighters are pretty stubborn, and will waste the duration of their careers trying to beat a fighter who just has their number…..

Anyone ever hear of a guy named Ken Shamrock?

The Lutter fight will be the first on Franklin’s new 6 fight contract with the UFC. Assuming he wins, what’s he going to do with the other 5 fights? Run through a few middleweight pylons in an effort to secure another shot at Silva and, more than likely another date with one of “The Spider’s” knees?

I personally would love to see him go back up to his natural weight class and fight at 205. A potential rematch with Lyoto Machida would be a big draw. As would a “Superfight” with Chuck Liddell. What about an encounter with Wanderlei? Or Shogun? All of these fights are more stimulating than watching Rich’s nose be relocated to the other side of his face yet again……..

So whaddaya say Rich????

Did Ken Shamrock do steroids?

Yeah, I’ve been reading about this everywhere. Frank Shamrock has been blabbing about how Ken Shamrock has juiced up all his life. It makes sense, he’s 42ish and has the body of a 30 year old in his prime.

Blah blah blah, Frank. Shut the funk up. Who cares?! We all know you’re engineering a fake ass publicity stunt because you two are going to fight some day soon when this feud reaches boiling point. I doubt this fight will outsell Tito Ortiz Vs Ken Shamrock.

Does anyone want to see this fight? I doubt it will happen in the UFC.

Fedor Emelianenko leaves M-1

Fedor has left M-1. There is nothing more to say about this except I’ll refer you to the article from a while back about a possible Fedor Emelianenko Vs Randy Couture fight.

Who will the the great Russian Emperor fight now? It remains to be seen if UFC (Dana) will swallow its GIGANTIC pride and pay the guy. This is what fight fans have been waiting forever for. This will top the bad blood fight of Ortiz and Shamrock. Let’s get it on already FFS!
