UFC86 Rampage Vs. Forrest Griffin

After “The Ultimate Fighter 7″ finale is over and there has been enough bad words said between Quinton Jackson and Forrest Griffin they’ll face each other in the Octagon and headline UFC86 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Jackson’s last fight was his first defense of his title against Dan Henderson via unanimous boredom. Let’s hope that young blood Griffin brings some spark to the Octagon and kicks the crap out of Rampage. I know he’s defended the title once but I want to see a new title holder already!

Griffin knows all about being TUF since he won the first season of it. He earned his shot at Rampage after beating Mauricio Rua by rear naked choke way back last September. It was a shock to see that happen, I’m not going to lie but he won fair and square and was impressive en route.

This will undoubtedly be a HUGE event. I’m looking forward to it.

UFC85 Update (again)

It seems like the draw against Tito Ortiz and the split decision snoozer win over Michael Bisping has earned Rashad Evans a shot at the former Light Heavyweight champion. Chuck’s had a few fights since losing his title so he’s not exactly in contention for the title any time soon. Perhaps a win against Evans might kick him up the list?

Chuck Liddell impressed with a good win over the Axe Murderer, Wanderlei Silva. Roll on UFC85!

Heavyweights Fabricio Werdum and Brandon Vera will face each other as the only other confirmed fighters on the card.

Jorge Gurgel is Back……. Again

O.K. “Big Mac” has taken a few months off to prepare for a fight, but I had to come out of hiding to voice my shock…. nay, DISGUST at the fact that Jorge Gurgel is back in the UFC after four, count ‘em FOUR bland performances in the Octagon.

C’mon folks, even Daniel “I’m an ULTIMATE FIGHTER!” Abbadi gave him all he could handle…..

Gurgel has never finished a fight in the UFC and other than the ability to take a punch, he’s show no real A level skills. Although that doesn’t stop Joe Rogan from touting his “SICK Jiu-Jitsu” skills. Perhaps he means sick as in “sick in bed at home” cuz Gurgel certainly hasn’t been bringing them to the Octagon!

What’s worse, anytime Gurgel loses he makes excuses. Whether it was his knee on The Ultimate Fighter season 2 when he lost to Jason Von Flu, or the fact that Mark Hominick didn’t stand still long enough for Gurgel to take him down, Jorge is always ready and willing to blame the loss on something other than his lack of talent.

Now, I know that Gurgel is joined at the hip (or possibly other body part) with former Middleweight Champ Rich Franklin. But after 2 losses to Anderson Silva, “Ace” is no longer Dana’s golden boy. So God only knows what is motivating them to keep ramming Gurgel down our throats.

Oh well. At least now we can hold out hope for the return of Jason Thacker……..

UFC84 Possible Fighters

Main event is rumored to be Sean Sherk vs. BJ Penn for the lightweight championship. Here are other fights to be confirmed:

  • Keith Jardine vs. Wanderlei Silva
  • Rashad Evans vs. Thiago Silva
  • Jeremy Stephens vs. Terry Etim
  • Rousimar Palhares vs. Ivan Salaverry
  • Goran Reljic vs. Wilson Gouveia
  • Dong-Hyun Kim vs. Jason Tan

A very lackluster fight card apart from the lightweight bout and the rumors of Tito Ortiz vs. Lyoto Machida can’t be true because Tito recently said he won’t fight in the UFC again as long as Dana is president.

Other sources have revealed that Tito will fight but this is his last in the UFC. This is what happens when you are spoiled rotten, he has no chance to fight against big name (big purse) fighters because Dana hates him. The onlyonption is to flee to greener pastures. He’ll probably be seeing Tim “Overrated” Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski leaving the UFC soon too.

UFC85 Possible Fighters

Two unconfirmed fights:

  • Brandon Vera vs. Fabricio Werdum
  • Chuck Liddell vs. Mauricio Rua

Brock Lesnar and Marcus Davis are also supposed to be on the same card (but obviously not fighting each other!)
