UFC83 Fight Results

Georges St Pierre wins the title

Georges St Pierre OWNED Matt Serra. After many unprotected knee to Matt Serra’s body the referee called it a day with 15 seconds to go in the second round.

Rich Franklin was convincing against Travis Lutter and shut that mofo’s trap up so that no more crap can come out of it. TKO strikes in the second round, the crowd loved this fight which was the “co-main event”. Yeah right, it was all about George St Pierre and he pleased the home crowd with a very convincing win.

UFC83 - Serra Vs St Pierre Card

UFC58 USA Vs Canada
Should they have picked up more Canadian fighters and Made it USA Vs. Canada, just like UFC58 (Franklin Vs. Loiseau and Georges St Pierre Vs Penn)?

There are 5 or 6 Canadian fighters on the card and they have Joe Doerksen fighting Jason MacDonald, two Canadians fighting each other which is a waste of a fight - they definitely should have pitted them against fighters from the USA and made it UFC58 part two!

OK, let’s cut to the chase. This is USA versus Canada. This is the very American Matt Serra versus the very (French) Canadian Georges St Pierre! This is UFC83 and it’s going to be amazing just for this fight alone.

Here is the fight card for UFC83

  • Matt Serra Vs. Georges St-Pierre
  • Travis Lutter Vs. Rich Franklin
  • Nate Quarry Vs. Kalib Starnes
  • Charles McCarthy Vs. Michael Bisping
  • Mark Bocek Vs. Mac Danzig
  • Joe Doerksen Vs. Jason MacDonald
  • Jason Day Vs. Alan Belcher
  • Ed Herman Vs. Demian Maia
  • Rich Clementi Vs. Sam Stout
  • Brad Morris Vs. Cain Velasquez
  • Kuniyoshi Hironaka Vs. Jonathan Goulet

Ed Herman is still fighting in the UFC, surprised? No, yes, whatever your answer is he hasn’t had much exposure but “Short Fuse” is 14-4 and on a run of three wins after 2 losses.

We have to watch out for the Demian Maia fight, he could potentially bring some new flair to the UFC in the form of explosive ground work and submissive power. Unfortunately this is deep near the bottom of the card so we might not see it.

Moving higher up this not amazing undercard we have Mark Bocek taking on Mac Danzig. If Frank Edgar hadn’t lost that decision to Gray Maynard at Fight Night 13 then he’d been in a good position for a shot at the title, alas it looks like the winner of the Boce/Danzig fight will get a title shot. My money is on Mac Danzig, he has the experience, the all round fighting skill and youth - he’s 28, still growing and maturing and getting stronger and more experienced.

Rich Franklin needs to beat Travis Lutter. It’s almost like the Chuck Liddell scenario in that he needs to get back on the horse and start winning fights. He has no direct route back to Anderson Silva any time soon and he needs to start training and fighting and getting ready for that fight. Looking forward its easy to see a Silva/Franklin rematch but its not easy to see Franklin coming out on top of that one.

The main event

It doesn’t have to be the super stellar undercard because at the end of the day you can have a couple of beers and watch some decent fights with Danzig, Bisping and Franklin breaking up the monotony. Georges St Pierre is deep within his Canadian stronghold of Montreal, Canada and without a shadow of a doubt this is one of the first of the BIGGEST fights for Montreal that will happen tonight (the second being the hopeful elimination of the Boston Bruins with an away win by Les Habitants).

Georges St Pierre is the Ultimate Fighter. You just need to look at his conquest list to see an impressive number of fighters he has submitted or TKO’d - he’s only had 3 fights go the distance and he won all of them. This guys is 27 years old and he has already beaten the likes of Hughes, Penn and Sherk - in short, he’s building up a massive list of fighters that he has dispatched of. An overall record of 15 and 2, compare that to Matt Serra…

Matt Serra is 34 years old and hasn’t had the impressive list of fighters that he’s defeated and he’s only had 9 and 4 record. He lost to BJ Penn but he did beat Yves Edwards in his day. He’s a good fighter with a lot of heart but he’s not Georges St Pierre… Like that Jean Claude Van Damme movie “Double Impact”, the only guy who could beat JC VD is JC VD, and I think its the same with GSP.

Matt Serra will have trained as hard as hell for this fight as will GSP. This fight is goign to be great, it’s no lie that I think GSP will dominate this fight as he has the whole package but I am sure that Serra will bring his lion heart into the Octagon and this will be awesome.

Look out for the fight results later.
