UFC-Fights.com recently sent 8 people to the Fedor event at Mark Ecko in NYC on Monday. I should have named this article the “Fedor Emelianenko press conference” but I thought the “alternative” title was better because it might stir up some good possibilities and rumors!!!
Here are the main points from the conference as reported on by David Vale:
- M1 does not want to be a limiting organization, eg Monte Cox stated that Fedor could fight in UFC or another organization while he is on M1 contract.
- Fedor would be honored to fight Couture said Vadim Finkelstein.
- Fedor says he respects Couture but even more than that Fedor respects Couture as a human being for his personal qualities and traits. Couture is a role model he said.
- M1 wants to be Global not regional or national like UFC stated Cox. They want to see international fighters and international champs, similar to PRIDE. Monte Cox says he expects UFC fighters to eventually sign with M1 because the league has tremendous potential with less restriction.
- The rules are still not figured out 100% (eg use of elbows or pride kick rules on the ground) Cox stated that rules need to be formalized and legal internationally so things are still in consideration as what is legal in Japan or Russia may not fly in the USA or vice versa.
- Fedor was asked what does he fear most. Fedor said that as a young child he feared darkness but now he doesnt like that there is war in the world this is scary and he said he wants peace.
- There are no restrictions as of now on Fedor to partake in any commercials, movies, or endorsements etc.
- Fedor was asked since you are #1 which fighter is #2. Fedor stated that he is not #1, he said he has not fought every fighter so he cannot claim that. On the other hand M1 reps and owners consistently repeated throughout the conference that Fedor is the world’s #1 MMA fighter.

Maybe not! Doesn’t sound good yet for me.
It was a great experience to be at the M1 press conference and to have the opportunity to meet such a classy and professional individual as Fedor Emelianenko.
Couture joining M1 perhaps for one fight? That fight alone would out sell any UFC card…
I’m happy we could hook it up for you man!
The M-1 reception was a great experience. walking in, everything was very professional and it seems this orgs got some rich investors aboard.I honestly think they’ll be a threat in a year or so especially since they’re going to attack the market in Asia where the UFC has no presence. As for the event itself. They gave out t-shirts and dvds and there was great food as well. I got pics with Frank Trigg and Mauro Ranallo. Mauro is such a nice guy and seemed really happy somone recognized him lol. Also saw Sherdog’s Josh Gross, and met one of Matt Hughes’ managers. Fedor was quiet, but very friendly and humble. I don’t care what people say, He’s number 1 period.
Thanks to Russ and UFC-Fights.com for the invite!!
I cant stand Fedor, He didnt want to fight Couture because he knows he wouldve lost like a chump or maybe he left the oppurtunity of the ufc because he knew BROCK LESNAR was coming! HAHAHAHAHA!
Dude, I guarantee we’ll see the Couture vs. Emelianenko fight…
i think that a best of five match between the ring and the cage would be the only way to determine the best fighter in the world ? fedor vs the natural end of story short and sweet . or no ropes at all just let them to bad ass men go toe too toe?:
I seriously doubt it. M1 may not have an exclucivity clause in fedors contract, but the UFC has one with all of their fighters and would want one with Fedor as well. This was one of the big problems with Chuck vs. Wandi, so I doubt they would be able tomake it happen because even though Randy left the UFC, they still feel he should have to honor the clause.
Dude… R U serious? Fedor would DESTROY Brock Lesnar, this is MMA, not WWE, theres no scripted endings, Brock has no where near the fighting experience of Fedor. One in a billion chances arent favored here like in WWE due to fan popularity, Get real. And Fedor isn’t afraid of Randy, thats 4 sure, but I do have to agree Randy would win, Fedor just hasn’t fought anyone like Randy, and I SERIOUSLY doubt that Fedor could stop Randy’s takedowns, Fedor realy doesnt have ANY takedown defence against this pedigree of wrestler, and would never be able to submit Randy. Plus I think Randy’s boxing is just as good as, or at least good enought to cope with, Fedors. In Randy’s last 2 fights he rocked his apponents with the very first punch he threw. He just outclasses Fedor all around and would NO DOUBT pull off the upset in brutal fashion, in my opinion.
lol, The bit about Lesnar was a joke, obviously Fedor would submit him without much difficulty and I would have to agree on the comments about R.C, I think he would TKO or deicsion Fedor!
As a person, Randy Couture is great, as a fighter, he is ugly to watch.
Randy is just another greco-wrestler, his boxing sucks, his other skills are average…he beat Tim Sylvia for the championship?!!!, please!!!, that guy is an ackward jiraffe!, he is even uglier to watch in a fight!!!
Fedor is the consumate fighter, he flows from stand up to ground and pound to submission without missing a beat.
The reason Randy left the UFC was “money”.
The president of UFC won’t pay him what he wants….why? you ask…his fighting is so ugly, he is not good enough to attract a large crowd to see his ugly style of fighting!!!
The only reason people will pay and watch him fight Fedor, is because Fedor is awesome!!!
Fedor has fought and beat several greco style wrestlers…Mark Coleman, and that other dude (black guy with the blond afro).
I give Fedor 1 to 7 odds that he will dismantle Couture.
If you dont like “ugly” fighters then go watch girls fake wrestle in wwe because mma is not the sport for you, Randy has proved he is the best, Fedor wouldnt take down Chuck Liddell and pound the shit out of him I guarentee you that, The reason he wants to fight Fedor is so that idiots like you shut the hell up and give him the respect that he deserves, Fedor nearly got his neck broken by Randleman if that was Randy then he would have never got up from it, I would love to bet with you on it and take some of your money!
The reason Randy left is because hes 44 and he just wants to beat Fedor then call it a day, and he couldnt achieve that in the ufc!
