Randy Couture Press Conference Video

I always wondered if Tito was just blowing smoke up his own ass, well, take “Douchebag” out of the equation and put in a Smart, articulate, humble, straight up individual and guess what? The UFC are STILL ASSHATS!

Chuck vs. Wanderlei: IT’S ON!!!!!!!

It’s FINALLY official!!! Posted on UFC.com today:

“For years, fight fans have speculated about the outcome of a historic dream matchup between two legendary figures in the sport of mixed martial arts, Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva. Tonight, on Spike TV’s 2007 Scream Awards, UFC President Dana White announced that this dream will finally become a reality when UFC and PRIDE former champions Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell and “The Axe Murderer” Wanderlei Silva face each other at UFC 79: NEMESIS live from the Mandalay Bay Events Center Saturday, December 29, 2007.”

Un! Be! Lievable!!!!!!!

What’s more unbelievable than finally getting this fight lined up? Well how’s about throwin’ in the Welterweight Title Match on the same card? Yes, in addition to that HUGE main event, Matt Serra will defend his belt against arch rival Matt Hughes on December 29!!!! Start countin’ the days people!!!

Fedor Emelianenko Vs. Randy Couture?

UFC-Fights.com recently sent 8 people to the Fedor event at Mark Ecko in NYC on Monday. I should have named this article the “Fedor Emelianenko press conference” but I thought the “alternative” title was better because it might stir up some good possibilities and rumors!!!

Here are the main points from the conference as reported on by David Vale:

  • M1 does not want to be a limiting organization, eg Monte Cox stated that Fedor could fight in UFC or another organization while he is on M1 contract.
  • Fedor would be honored to fight Couture said Vadim Finkelstein.
  • Fedor says he respects Couture but even more than that Fedor respects Couture as a human being for his personal qualities and traits. Couture is a role model he said.
  • M1 wants to be Global not regional or national like UFC stated Cox. They want to see international fighters and international champs, similar to PRIDE. Monte Cox says he expects UFC fighters to eventually sign with M1 because the league has tremendous potential with less restriction.
  • The rules are still not figured out 100% (eg use of elbows or pride kick rules on the ground) Cox stated that rules need to be formalized and legal internationally so things are still in consideration as what is legal in Japan or Russia may not fly in the USA or vice versa.
  • Fedor was asked what does he fear most. Fedor said that as a young child he feared darkness but now he doesnt like that there is war in the world this is scary and he said he wants peace.
  • There are no restrictions as of now on Fedor to partake in any commercials, movies, or endorsements etc.
  • Fedor was asked since you are #1 which fighter is #2. Fedor stated that he is not #1, he said he has not fought every fighter so he cannot claim that. On the other hand M1 reps and owners consistently repeated throughout the conference that Fedor is the world’s #1 MMA fighter.

Here are some photos from the event, courtesy of some of the guys we sent to the event:

Notes From Cincinnati

UFC-Fights.com was on hand in Cincinnati for UFC 77 for all the action, right from the weigh-ins to the end of the event. Here’s what you didn’t see:

  • Houston Alexander was signing autographs and posing for pictures with fans on weigh-in day. Not many people seemed to know who he was.
  • Joe Rogan got the biggest laugh by falling up the stairs when he was making his entrance to MC the weigh-ins.
  • Wanderlei Silva, Keith Jardine, Matt Hammill and Sean Sherk all attended the weigh-ins and stuck around to sign autographs afterward.
  • Shonie Carter was siging autographs and meeting fans outside US Bank arena on fight night. UFC-Fights.com got an exclusive interview with “Mr. International” which will be posted later in the week.
  • Several vignettes were played before the event began. Randy Couture was strangely absent from every one.
  • During the opening bout, Jason Black vs. Matt Grice. A fat redneck screamed “Stand ‘em up!” approximately 3 seconds after the fight went to the mat.
  • As Kalib Starnes was exiting the cage after his fight with Alan Belcher was stopped due to a nasty gash on Starnes forehead, someone in the crowd was objecting to the stoppage. Kalib replied “The Doctor said he could see my skull.”
  • Yushin Okami was introduced with his new nickname: “Thunder”. Yes, it’s lame….
  • When they showed Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira on the big screen, the crowd went into a confused silence. Besides the Brazilian guys sitting in front of us, no one in the building had a clue as to who he was. The UFC needs to educate the fans a little better on how good he is if they are hoping to pull in any kind of crowd for his Heavyweight Title match.
  • Andrei Arlovski, Matt Hughes and Keith Jardine were also in the crowd.
  • Despite Dana’s claims: “There won’t be anyone cheering for Anderson Silva in Cincinnati”, there were quite a few cheers during his introduction. After the fight was over, Silva received a standing ovation.

All in all, the Cincinnati fans showed a lot of class and the event was a complete success.

UFC77 Results

I turned up pretty late for the fight, maybe three or four fights to go and got to see some very predictable match ups. They really should have called this UFC77: “Predictable”. The main fight went just like the last one, everyone was cheering Silva and I was the only one hoping Franklin would find a way through and hurt Silva.

Tim Sylvia “won” his fight in the most unbelievably lackluster way. He pressed Brandon Vera against the cage and used his 35llb and 5 inch height to his advantage. In the few moments when he wasn’t man hugging Vera there were a few exchanges (literally a few though) were Sylvia did hit home and win the points. Ultimately it went to a points decision for Tim who’ll fight for the title in his next fight. Unbelievable. I have a great few rants coming up about what the hell is going on in the UFC.

the highlight fight of the night was the Alvin Robinson Vs. Jorge Gurgel. Robinson, a BJJ brown belt was supposed to have lost that fight to Gurgel, a BJJ black belt. On paper that is… The end result was an amazing ground and pound game by Robinson that resulted in Gurgel’s face looking like… well, let’s say the elephant man, but in reality it was worse like when Tito ground Shamrock’s face into mince meat.

The rest will come later, I’ll admit I have a little bit of a beer hangover.
