UFC74 Fighter Update - Georges St. Pierre

Georges St. Pierre (-280) vs Josh “Kos” Koscheck (+220)

gsp.jpg Is anybody as nervous about this fight as I am? I mean, there was a time when GSP frickin ANNIHILATED the most dominant Welterweight in the history of the UFC and we all sat back and waited for him to reign supreme over the division for years to come. Then BLAMMO! It’s all over.

Coming back from a loss in any sport is a difficult thing to do. Coming back from a BRUTAL loss, well thats even tougher. But coming back after you lose to a +850 underdog in your first title defense after destroying your arch nemesis in front of millions of adoring fans…well that’s darn near impossible.

Especially when there are questions about your heart and mental toughness.

Granted, GSP showed some MASSIVE cojones in his second fight against Hughes, but in their first showdown he was admittedly frazzled, and against Serra he spoke about his lack luster training and how he didn’t take his opponent seriously…another mental error.

This raises concern because believe it or not, love him or hate him, Josh Koscheck is as mentally tough as they come. He might seem like a cocky prick but understand that his confidence in his abilities is UNWAIVERING.

This guy is absolutely unflappable.

My concern here is not for GSP’s physical attributes or technical abilities…its that spark, that flicker that we all saw in his eyes when he stepped in the ring with his former idol for a second time and not only took his belt, but I think he walked away with his wallet and car keys too.

I believe that Georges St. Pierre is a better fighter than Josh Koscheck, in almost every aspect of mma. But he was also better than Serra, and better than Hughes the first time but he still lost.

What continues to make me so damn nervous about this fight is the fact that every time Josh Koscheck has stepped into the ring, the guys he was fighting were ALMOST ALWAYS better fighters than him. And he’s 9 - 1.

Scary.

I hope to see GSP do really well, just like the last time after he lost to Matt Hughes he won 6 fights in a row. Or a fight with Diego Sanchez or Mach would be cool.

I hope GSP does win this fight if not he will lose self respect for himself and will lose the respect of his fans and it could be so devastating he might not won’t to get into the cage again

I don’t really like GSP, but why did he loose his first title defence? My personal guess is he filled with with pride too much about himself.
See what happens to him in couple days.
