UFC75 is all about unification

pride-ufc.jpg

It was up in the air for awhile, first it was the possibility of PRIDE vs UFC Mega Super Awesome Fights, then we watched as all of the PRIDE contenders bailed and walked over to the UFC, and then PRIDE seemingly bailed and folded up like a cheap tent.

Now, after months of speculation Dana White himself confirmed that the Quinton “Rampage” Jackson vs Dan Henderson Championship bout at UFC75 will be for the PRIDE AND UFC titles!

Whart? Two organizations pitting their independent champions against each other to decide who is officially the best?

Pssst, hey boxing, want to ever be popular again? Watch and learn.

OK, Maybe I’ll leave the PRIDE stuff, I might waste my $$$$$. And actually I saw a clip of Ken Shamrock vs. Bas Rutten in PRIDE from YouTube. Not much action. So I’m glad I found this site.

i’ve watched all the different fights, bodog, ufc, pride, and yes i’ll admit i’m a boxing fan too. the ufc has something none of the others has. its not really explainable, but it’s most certainly undeniable. i can’t wait to see ufc75….i have all the pay per views on my dvr i watch them from time to time just to get my fix. oh yea and my husband likes them to. i’m not some weird; i’m happily married, a sahm with five children ranging in age from 12 to twin 18 month olds. ufc is just the BOMB! had to get that out there from a womans perspective!

its good 2 hear a womans point of view.
a writer on this site says women only pretend 2 like ufc 2 please there partners.
    thats a shallow view.
there are many women martial artists in the world.why wouldnt they enjoy ufc?
or do they train and compete 2 please ther partners aswell.

yeh theres a lot of women into mma, thats 4 sure.call me old fashioned but i dont like seeing women punching holes in each other.
women could put themselves to more productive things, ironing 4 example or setting the dvr;)
im not sure the public is ready 4 women in ufc.theyve only recently accepted the men.

If you watch BODOG, they have a women’s division, most of whom are flyweights (125lbs or less). It’s usually very fast and a good chess match in terms of grappling and striking…would be a good addition to the WEC, they’re all about the lighter weight classes anyway. I think the Ferrita’s are always looking to expand they’re marketing and a women’s division would be good…hell what guy doesn’t like watching a good cat fight only with a organized and trained skills set. They train hard and deserve the chance to show what they can do.

PRIDE’s main downfall is they no longer have a TV deal in Japan, that’s what lead to Zuffa buying them to begin with. Many of these PRIDE stalwarts simply renewed their contracts and moved or returned to the UFC…no different than Jens Pulver moving to the WEC to fight at 145. When you have multiple orgs under singular ownership, you have that kind of flexibility. The UFC is Zuffa’s flagship and it makes sense for fighters to want to be a part of it. The most exposure which translates to endorsement opportunities and greater noterioty.

Now if we could just get Fedor on board for a unification bout with Randy, we’d have the superfight for 2008. That and pending the results of Sean Sherk’s appeal, let’s have him and Gomi see who the true top Lightweight is. Dan Henderson is also on a collision course with Anderson Silva as he is both a light heavy and middleweight champion and I know AS would love a crack at being the undisputed champ at 185 as would Dan.

We’ve got great potential match ups on the horizon here and many different directions the sport can go and grow in. I look forward to the last fights of 07 and what the coming years bring us of champions being crowned and legacies solidified. Who knows maybe they’ll intergrate these lighter WEC weight classes in the UFC on day. Best wishes to all parties involved
