Why Tito HAS to beat Rashad

This weekend at UFC73, Tito Ortiz is on a comeback mission. Sure, he’s won four of his last five fights, but this fight is Tito Ortiz’s lifeline to the UFC, his opportunity to stay in the game and survive.

When the boss hates you this bad…all he’s waiting for is one slip up to send you packing.

The only real significant, uncontroversial and well deserved win Tito has had in the last three years has been against Patrick Cote, where he banged out a solid unanimous decision. But now Cote is turning out to be a have-not of the UFC having lost 4 of his last 5 fights.

He does have a W against Forrest Griffin…but on a split decision that could have easily gone the other way. Same with a split against Vitor Belfort…and 2 “gimme’s” against the old man Ken Shamrock.

What Tito’s record shows us is that he can hang with the good, but he can’t bang with the elite.

So what does he do about Rashad Evans?

If there’s one thing that Tito has going for him is that he’s been it with the cream of the crop. Rashad, not so much. For those of you who watched him on TUF, you were probably somewhat unimpressed. And if it wasn’t for the highlight reel right kick that put Sean Salmon to sleep (in a fight that Salmon was winning on my card) how much hype would really be surrounding the 15 - 0 Evans?

There are alot of things that The Crocodile Hunter taught us all about animals, and one of them is to NEVER underestimate an animal backed into a corner. Desperate creatures are capable of incredible things.

Tito is just such an animal these days, and the only thing more crazy and unpredictable than a cornered animal, is one thats been hurt, and Dana White has been poking Tito with a stick for a while now.

SO Tito not only CAN win, but he NEEDS to win, for all of these reasons, because even the top car salesman can only piss off the owner for long enough before, regardless of his performance, is dispensable.
