Ultimate Fight Night 11 Preview - One Writers Picks

With the Ultimate Fight night 11 card becoming officially “official” today, we had our writer Casper give us his cent and a half on the upcoming bouts. Heres the “official” card:

  • Din Thomas vs Spencer Fisher
  • Mike Swick vs Jonathan Goulet
  • Chris Leben vs Terry Martin
  • Nate Diaz vs Junior Assuncao
  • Nate Quarry vs Pete Sell
  • Gray Maynard vs Joe Veres
  • Leonard Garcia vs Cole Miller

One Writers Preview of Ultimate Fight Night 11

UFN 11 is on Spike TV on September 19 at 9pm (ET/PT)

Din Thomas vs Spencer “ The King” Fisher this easily could be the fight of the night.

Din Thomas has a very impressive resume and has fought the biggest names in MMA.

With wins over Jens Pulver, Matt Sera and Clay Guida just to name a few.

Din is dangerous in both submissions and striking and coming from the American Top Team you know they are finetuning his skills.

Spencer “The King” Fisher is another well-rounded dangerous fighter. With notable wins over Sam Stout, Thaigo Alves and always on the knock out real with the flying knee knock out of Matt Wiman. Also coming from a great camp in Pat Miletich.

I’m giving it to Fisher with the decision.

Mike “ Quick” Swick vs Jonathan Goulet.

This is Mike’s first fight in coming down a weight class and fighting at 170lb. They don’t call him Quick for nothing with his fast hands and his famous Swickotine choke. Will the wait loss make him into Mike “The Turtle “Swick or will he steal Superman’s line as fast as a speeding bullet? I’m excited to find out!

Jonathan Goulet “The Road Warrior” Has probably the most colourful hair in the entire sport. Goulet likes to bang with most of his wins coming from KO/TKO.

If Swick is the same man at 170lb as he is at his usual 185lb I believe he’ll go right through Goulet. The question is what type of fighter will he be at 170lb because if he starts gassing early The Road Warrior will do what he does best and that’s knocking people out.

Swick via TKO in the first.

Chris Leben vs Terry Martin

Chris is coming of 2 consecutive losses to the Canadian boys Kalib Starnes and Jason McDonald. Leben hasn’t been very impressive lately with sloppy technique and gassing i quickly.

Terry Martin has been a roll after coming down from 205lb to 185lbs. With his last four fights have been wins with TKO or KO.

Martin in the third via TKO.

Nate Diaz vs Junior Assuncao

Nathan Diaz is the TUF 5 season winner and a member of the Caeser Gracie team.

Junior Assunca isn’t either of those.

Nathan Diaz via submission in the first

Gray Maynard vs Joe Veres

Maynard has superior wrestling and his hands are coming up very fast.

I’m giving him the TKO in the first.

At the time we got Casper sloggin along on these picks, Leonard Garcia vs Cole Miller and Nate Quarry vs Pete Sell weren’t really being floated around…

UFC74 - Too Long?

Holy crap! Is it just me or is this gap between UFC73 and UFC74 waaaay too long!? It is DRY out there! I mean bone dry. They didn’t even toss in a Fight Night to appease us…its just barren, vacant landscape. I feel like I’m a fan of the Iditarod instead of the most exciting sport in the universe.
Sure I’m enjoying summer, and maybe the UFC needed a bit of a break but c’mon…this is really getting out of hand.

I’m getting the shakes and food’s starting to taste different.

UFC77 Fight Card Shaping Up!

silva.jpg

This is what we know:

This event will be held on October 20th at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.

This is what we’re pretty damn sure we might know:

This is going to be a rematch between Anderson Silva and Rich Franklin for the UFC Middleweight Championship and the undercard will have the following matchups:

  • Kalib Starnes vs Alan Belcher
  • Drew McFedries vs Marvin Eastman
  • And this is what we would think we’d like to think that we know:
  • Tim Sylvia vs TBA

More updates as we get em’!

Ultimate Fight Night 11 Fight Card Preview

Here is the rumoured card:

  • Mike Swick vs. Jonathan Goulet
  • Chris Leben vs. Terry Martin
  • Gray Maynard vs. Joe Veres
  • Din Thomas vs. Spencer Fisher
  • Nate Diaz vs. Junior Assuncao
  • Luke Cummo vs. TBA
  • Kuniyoshi Hironaka vs. Thiago Alves

Now before you get all wet and need to change your drawers, keep in mind these are just RUMORS. Only the Swick/Goulet (Jonathan, not Robert) fight has been confirmed.

But if this holds true, UFN 11 will put some recent PPV events to shame *cough, UFC72, cough*.

The Ultimate Fighter 6 Preview

tuf.jpg

So far, here’s what we have confirmed for season 6 of the UFC’s hit reality show The Ultimate Fghter:

  • The coaches will be UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Serra and former WW champ Matt Hughes. These two have genuine beef with each other stemming mainly from the fourth season of TUF where Serra was a contestant and Hughes was brought in to assist with training. Serra has been publicly referring to Hughes as a “Jock Dickhead” ever since.
  • Hughes will face Serra for the Welterweight strap at the conclusion of the season. Whether we will be treated to this fight as part of the finale or it will be the main event of a PPV is thus far unknown.
  • The show will now air on Spike TV on Wednesday nights as opposed to the usual Thursday time slot.
  • The show will consist only of welterweights this season. Rumored fighters include:
    • Matt Arroyo (2-1 MMA)
    • Blake Bowman (0-0 MMA)
    • Mac Danzig (16-4-1 MMA)
    • Paul Georgieff (7-1 MMA)
    • Richie Hightower (7-1 MMA)
    • John Koloski (8-4 MMA)
    • Jon Koppenhaver (4-1 MMA)
    • Troy Mandaloniz (2-1 MMA)
    • Billy Miles (2-1 MMA)
    • Roman Mitichyan (3-1 MMA)
    • Dorian Price (6-2 MMA)
    • Jared Rollins (4-3 MMA)
    • Ben Saunders (4-0-2 MMA)
    • Joe Scarola (3-0 MMA)
    • Tommy Speer (7-1 MMA)

Not exactly a who’s-who of MMA. In fact I’ve only heard of 4 of those guys, and I’ve only ever seen Danzig fight. Not exactly thrilling at this point but it will be interesting to see Hughes and Serra finally lock up after all these years.
