Here’s the what went down…
Leben should stop trying to kick… Starnes can kick, he’s choosing his spot and scoring some solid inside leg kicks and knees from the clinch.
Chris Leben’s wild kick left him wide open and Kalib Starnes took him down and got some good body shots. End of round one and some BIG shots from Starnes and Leben makes it through to round two.
Round two. Chris Leben swings and misses and looks sluggish. Next thing Starnes gets a big right shot through and like in the firs, Starnes can’t get through Leben’s guard. They stand it up which is crazy, Leben was on his back and quite literally was a sitting duck. More great knees and some good right hands make it through to Leben. Another inside leg kick, that’s going to start slowing Leben down soon. Leben’s knees are so damn sluggish, soon Starnes is going to catch him. Starnes is covering up a LOT and Leben momentarily seems on fire as he lands some good shots but Starnes gets a good knee in and dropps Leben back. Leben’s looking in good condition and Starnes looks tired but its through to round three. Boy, Starnes looks tired. End of round two. Starnes should have pummeled Leben from the top, that was a missed opportunity.
Round three. Third and final round starts off with LEbens stupid kicks and then redeems himself with some good pressure and hustle. He’s throwing some really bad low kicks that are around the knee area. He’s on top of Starnes now and Starnes looks quiet and then Leben gets a decent kick to Starne’s liver which doubled him and had him gasping. Starnes is on his back and tries to get Leben in an arm bar but that’s shaken off. Leben’s taking this round so far and needs to double up but suddenly Starnes reverses and The Crippler’s on his back. Nice elbow from Starnes, maybe that was a punch but it got through. Leben’s got energy and all those micro shots are counting but now Starnes is up and is trying to mount Leben but he’s in the half guard. The crowds booing Starnes lack of activity, Leben’s hyper and clipping Starnes. Starnes is tired but at the end he hit Leben a good few times. The horn goes and it’s down to a decision, not the way we wanted this to go. I am not sure if Leben did enough and Starnes could have taken it at the end, let’s see…
Decision, Kalib Starnes gets the unanimous decision. It wasn’t by any means all Starnes’ fight. It was a good fight, good start to the card tonight.
