Now this is dumb. Marcus Davis will always be known as “The Irish Hand Grenade” but some VERY intelligent person at the UFC thought they’d have him fight at UFC72 in Belfast, the capital of the north of Ireland.
Years of civil war has ravaged Ireland and British occupation has divided both the country and the city of Belfast into East and West with pro-British and pro-Irish sides fighting over their country. It stands to reason that the name “The Irish Hand Grenade” wouldn’t go down too well so they’ve changed it…
Here’s a quick fact about what goes on in Belfast… Still a lot of fighting (although it’s all kept secret) and soccer (or football as they call it there) is a big deal. The Pro-British (Loyalist) Protestant population tend to sway towards a Scottish team called (Glasgow) Rangers and the Pro-Ireland, Nationalist Catholic populations tend to sway towards a Scottish team called (Glasgow) Celtic. So even there we have bitter rivalry.
Now this is what gets to me, what have they gone and changed Marcus Davis’ name to? “The Celtic Warrior” Oh my god.
First, the Celtic tradition is not something that one side of the divide likes in Northern Ireland. Second that association with The Scottish soccer team will piss a lot of people right off. I just think he should not be part of the fight card, it’s just stupid and will propably cause trouble.

The football team is pronounced with a soft C, as in Seltic.
The “Celtic” warrior is pronounced differently, so to those of us from that part of the world, it’s no big deal.
Yeah I know the Glasgow Celtic team is the “S” sound but still, are you saying that the protestant people in Belfast will appreciate the “Celt” (With the hard “K”)?
