Life after UFC70 for Cro Cop

As you all know Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic ran as a non-party candidate on the Social Democratic Party list in parliamentary elections and won a seat in the Croatian Parliament. The main reason why he was elected as an official is because of his stand on underfunding of the police force which he is a member of (anti-terrorist branch.) You can see his government profile here.

I haven’t seen any news about any possible injury to Cro Cop. I have been scouring the Internet and making calls but nobody seems to know. First thing I’ll say is this, I have trained in various martial arts since I was aged 6, flexibility is a key part of my training and I know that Mirko is extremely flexible, see below.

Cro Cop

My point is that he ha a better chance of not being injured than say a wrestler or boxer who specifically doesn’t include flexibility into their training regime. Long story short, I hope he’s OK and can continue fighting. I am so glad he walked out of the Octagon.

This is all good and well but in November when his government duties are complete he plans on returning to the anti-terrorist branch of the Croatian police force. I don’t know if he’ll be fighting again if he does that full time.

Anyone have any thoughts and most importantly any news this would be great. UPDATE from a UFCmania user:

..at the airport in Zagreb, Croatia, Cro Cop did reveal to Net.hr that he injured ligaments in his right foot but that it’s, “nothing to fear.

    That is great news!

Yeah, I am beyond happy to hear about the injury as being a minor one.

What a display of dignity. He is a better man than me, I think that a finish performed like that would surly put most other fighters out of business. I have to say that it made me and my friends watching a little nauseous. Great job though and good luck next time Cro Cop.

I am pretty sure there won’t be a next time… Saying that, he is under contract. I can see one of two things happening:

    1) He retires.
    2) He comes back and defeats a baller, then gets a shot at the title holder and wins it -> THEN he retires :)

Damn, Cro Cop retiring?! Now?! Last week I would have told you that you’re crazy, that just still seems shocking, but I believe it to be a good possibility. That kick made me momentarily question whether I should retire from WATCHING the UFC! Damn, I lost some loot on this fight…

    Yeah, it was a shocker…

You’ve got to have a rematch because flukes happen. Crocrop was blocking low because he thought the kick was coming mid section. He just mis calculated. Rematch for sure will be a better fight.

I agree! I hope he doesn’t retire, but unfortunately, I’ve been hearing he is going to…

    Yeah, it was a shocker…

Yup nobody in the world expected Gonzaga to win by head kick KO.
